Beyond Words: Rediscovering Communication Through the Senses
When I declared my Communication Arts major, I thought I was going to study the art of how to communicate, or put more plainly, to speak. After all, that’s what I grew up believing communication was: knowing what words to choose, how to persuade people, how to write an impressive email or report, and so on. To my surprise, much of my academic career was spent studying something else, and ultimately even more valuable: I learned the art of listening. I learned how to see. I learned how to smell, how to taste, and how to feel. Through this reflection, I explore how embracing these basics have shaped my understanding of connection, creativity, and faith.
